My name is Yiming and I’m a Food Ethnographer. As a food ethnographer, I explore the connection between people, food, and culture. You’ll find me running around New York City interviewing my subjects and asking them questions like “What is your favorite childhood meal?” then recreating and sharing these meals with them.

Even though I’m not a professional chef, I try my hardest to find good quality ingredients, research the right recipes, and make the best possible meal I can. With each meal and story, I began to realize that it’s not about the food itself, but rather the personal connection between the person and the dish. It’s the curiosity about this connection that drives me and my work as an ethnographer.

I share these stories and recipes on my account Literally Starving with now over two million followers across social media, with a curious global audience that’s literally starving for stories about people, culture, and food.
